Rescue teams worked frantically into the night Friday after a Metrolink passenger train carrying 225 people collided head-on with a Union Pacific freight train on a sharp curve in Chatsworth, killing at least 15 people and leaving more than 135 injured. It was one of the worst train crashes in Southern California history and Metrolink officials said they could not explain why warning systems failed to prevent such a catastrophic collision.
I so hate reading reports of Railway Accidents like this, and my thoughts go out to the Survivors and their families.
An Italian patented invention " SF 97 Forerunner : Railway Safety : collision & derailment avoidance" would have been able to prevent and avoid this mortal disaster !
This invention is still on the paper.
Why Railway managers are so conservative against innovations?? They are the real responsible of so many deaths more than the engineer who failed to activate the stop.
In fact SF 97 Forerunner could positively work in almost 100% of causes of accidents including human error!

Thank you for the info, Franco. The reason why it probably hasn't been taken up, is the usual one, I suspect, namely, money.
